    Vineyards, an abbey, a lake village and Mozart's city, in one long day out

    This is the long one. You head west out of Vienna early, follow the Danube through the Wachau by road and, when the boats are running, from the water, pass Melk Abbey on its rock above the river, cross into the Salzkammergut for Hallstatt, then finish in Salzburg before the drive back. Four very different places, with real driving time between them.

    Three Slovak castles in a day: a cliff-top ruin, a Roman inscription, a fairytale chateau

    Three castles, one day, and a good amount of road. You cross into Slovakia's Váh valley for Beckov, a ruin balanced on a limestone crag, then Trenčín, where Roman soldiers cut an inscription into the rock below the castle in 179 AD, and finish at Bojnice, the romantic chateau that everyone photographs. It is a long day and it keeps moving — worth knowing before you book.

    This is our longest day out, and we will not pretend otherwise: you cross most of Slovakia and spend a good share of the day in the van. What you get back is four very different places — a painted village, a romantic chateau, a cliff-top castle and the High Tatras — in a single run. Best suited to travellers who would rather see a lot than sit still.

    This is the day for travellers who want Slovakia itself rather than the postcard version of it. You head inland to Nitra, Banská Štiavnica and Banská Bystrica, three towns that between them carry a thousand years of history and far less tourist traffic than the Danube routes. It is a long day with real driving between stops, and that is the trade.

    From Bratislava: Vienna in a Day — Ringstrasse, Hofburg, Schönbrunn

    An hour along the Danube, past the old amber crossing at Carnuntum, then a full day in Vienna.

    Vienna sits about an hour from Bratislava, which makes it an easy day out and a long one. We drive in along the Danube, loop the Ringstrasse, then walk the old centre around the Hofburg and St Stephen's Cathedral before you get several hours to yourself. Expect a lot of walking, and one city seen properly rather than everything at once.

    A cliff-top ruin above two rivers, then the wine hills just behind the city.

    Devín Castle stands on a rock where the Morava flows into the Danube, ten kilometres west of Bratislava and directly on the Austrian border. After the ruins we drive up into the Small Carpathians, where vineyards climb the slopes above working wine villages. This is the easy half day: short drives, open air, and enough time to look properly at both.

About us

How we run a day

We are a small day-tour operator based in Slovakia, running guided one-day trips out of Vienna and Bratislava. We plan the routes ourselves, drive them ourselves, and keep groups small enough that the guide can talk with everyone rather than at them. No coach queues, no waiting on forty other people, no day spent as a checklist.

A day with us starts where you are staying and ends there. We collect you, cover the driving, and shape the pace around the group — longer at the castle if the light is good, a proper lunch stop if people are hungry. We run from both cities because the region does not stop at a border, and a lot of what is worth seeing sits between the two.

Our name comes from the Amber Road, the ancient Baltic-to-Adriatic trade route that passed through the Danube country around Vienna and Bratislava.

Questions we get asked most

Where does the tour start, and can you pick me up at my hotel?
Departures are from central Vienna or central Bratislava, depending on the tour. Pickup at your accommodation is often possible within the city — tell us where you are staying and the team will confirm your exact meeting point.
How big is the group?
We keep groups small rather than running full-size coaches. You travel with a handful of other guests, so the guide stays reachable for questions and the day can flex with the group's pace.
What should I bring and wear?
Comfortable shoes for cobblestones and uneven ground, layers for changing weather, water, and sunglasses in summer. Carry your ID or passport: a day out can cross between Austria, Slovakia or Hungary, so keep it on you.
Are entry tickets and meals included?
That varies by itinerary, so we confirm it per tour rather than making a blanket promise. Once you enquire, the team will tell you in writing what is included, what is paid on site, and what is optional.
What happens in bad weather?
Tours run in rain as well as sun, and much of the day is outdoors, so pack a jacket. If conditions make a stop unsafe or pointless, the guide adjusts the route and the team flags bigger changes in advance.
How do I book, and how does payment work?
